AIA College of Fellows Western Mountain Region

The following is an explanation of what your College of Fellows representatives have been doing following the dissolution by AIA National of the Regions within the United States.

From 1959 until 2021, the American Institute of Architects’ Western Mountain Region was committed to effecting positive change through the power of design and design leadership.

Those 60+ years had shown us the impact we have on our profession, our communities, and our young, emerging professionals.

And then everything changed when AIA National leaders decided to do away with the regions. 60+ years of leadership, tradition and a robust sub-culture were, in an instant, lost.

BUT NOT ANYMORE …

Since 2023, representatives from eight western mountain states have been vigorously and enthusiastically focused on “bringing back” the region — only this time, through the College of Fellows.

We are the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows Western Mountain Region (AIA COF WMR).

This newly constituted region now includes eight states, adding both Idaho and Montana to what had previously been a six-state region: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.

We are over 210 Fellows strong and residing in a geographic area that is almost one-third of the continental United States. We are poised to effect positive change with dramatic impact, and our first event was held in Keystone, Colorado, from Nov. 13-16, 2024, which included an awards program and a celebratory Awards Banquet on Friday, Nov. 14.
