14 WYOMING ARCHITECTURE .15 | www.aia-wyoming.org A s a youngster growing up in Laramie, I remember certain iconic figures that were the face of their respective organiza- tions, individuals who, when I heard their name, immediately directed my thoughts to the people, places and activities of those that they led. Names like John Deti, who was one of the winningest football coaches of all time not just at Laramie High, but in the entire nation. Or Governor Stan Hathaway whose name invoked a sense of pride in the fact that I lived in the Cowboy State, and whose lega- cy lives on in the Scholarship program for Wyoming High School Graduates. What about Joe Alexander, from a little placed called Cora, who won 5 consecutive World Championships in Bareback Riding on the Pro-Rodeo circuit. The list of similar individuals from Wyoming is lengthy. Throughout our rich history, these and others from Wyoming represented their avocation with excellence and class, and elevated the status of their respective sphere through their long term dedication. The same is true of many of our members in the AIA Wyoming Chapter. At the 2015 Fall Conference we honored 7 esteemed Gentlemen who have served the Chapter for over 40 years. Their lon- gevity, consistency and dedication to the Chapter has, and continues to help propel AIA Wyoming to prominent roles and responsibili- ties in the shaping our communities and the State. Through their service to the profession and the Chapter, these men and other long term AIA Members provide strong leadership and mentorship to the younger members of the organization. Every successful establish- ment needs those who are “all-in” through thick and thin to preserve the integrity and health of the organization. These 7 men endured the economic downturn of the 80’s, the reconfiguration of School Funding in the late 90’s, and every other little boom and bust cycle over the last 40 to 50 years. They have all at one time or another provided that beacon of reason pertaining to growth of our state. Perhaps the greatest legacy that our long term members leave with us is the stability of AIA Wyoming and the vision to move forward with confidence and focus. The AIA Membership Development Com- mittee recognizes and thanks the following for their dedication and continuous service to the Chapter: ■ Gene Dehnert – AIA, AIA Wyoming member since January 1, 1961 ■ George Harokopis – AIA, AIA Wyoming member since July 15, 1961 ■ Eliot Goss – AIA, AIA Wyoming member since January 1, 1969 ■ Andy Pappas – AIA, AIA Wyoming member since January 1, 1971 ■ Ken Richardson – AIA, AIA Wyoming member since January 1, 1971 ■ John Frullo – AIA, AIA Wyoming member since January 1, 1974 ■ Fred Hynek – FAIA, AIA Wyoming member since January 1, 1974 Anyone who has been in the Design professional industry in Wyo- ming for any length of time, likely recognizes all of the names above. For those who are new to the Chapter or for those who are contem- plating joining AIA Wyoming, the rich heritage that these and others leave behind is here to benefit you and give you opportunity to carry the torch as we continue to help mold our communities and State. As the membership development committee continues to encourage Architects, Interns, business partners and others to join our Chapter, I take my hat off to those who have paved the way for us, and once again say thank you for your leadership and commitment! b Membership Development Committee Honoring Longtime Members at 2015 Annual Fall Conference BY DALE BUCKINGHAM, AIA, CHAIR Members of the Membership Development Committee: Dale Buckingham, AIA - Chair Katie Wilson, AIA Rachel Delventhal, AIA Jacob Ernst, Assoc.
