11 Public & Professional Awareness Committee Good Awareness Provides Great Benefit BY ANTHONY JACOBSEN, AIA, CHAIR Members of Public and Professional Awareness Committee: Anthony Jacobsen, AIA, Chair Rosalie Ruwart, NCIDQ, Allied member Agnes Kardasz, Associate AIA Lyle Murtha, AIA Aimee Bolton, AIA A IA Wyoming has much to be proud of regarding our involvement and networking of our members. The active volunteerism in our small Chapter allows us to accomplish great things. Much of this is due to our increased communication efforts and ability to work togeth- er even though we are distances apart. This year the Public and Profes- sional Awareness Committee has continued to work on the strategies and goals of our strategic plan. We are continuing the multiple success- ful projects that help keep communication and awareness progressing throughout the public and our Chapter. Since our first publication that was created in 2014, we have continued its success with subsequent years. For 2015 we added to our distribution list of industry partners, legislators, state departments, schools, contractors, realtors, clients, members and many other contacts throughout the state. We want to continue expanding our list so that we reach additional dis- ciplines, and so we can continue to advocate for the profession. Our 2015 publication has also won two awards, a Gold Hermes Creative Award which is the second year in a row and then also a Gold MarCom Award. The benefit of having a publication like this is for AIA Wyoming to edu- cate the public on our profession through our activities and programs of our Chapter. Next year we will be celebrating 70 years as a Chapter of The American Institute of Architects so keep an eye out for our publication on 70 years of history of AIA Wyoming coming out the end of 2017. The Calendar project was a success once again so you can expect to see this project continue. The images submitted this year were spectacular. It is great to see the wonderful architecture that is being created around the state and this calendar showcases more than 50 of those projects. The images in the calendar are of Wyoming projects throughout the state, designed by AIA Wyoming architects and designers from across the state. We would like to thank anyone who has purchased these calendars and for proudly displaying your calendar. For more information on ordering AIA Wyoming calendars, contact AIA Wyoming at info@aia-wyoming. org or viewing our website at www.aia-wyoming.org. National Architecture Week was celebrated earlier in April by holding tours and lectures around the state; Casper: DDA Plaza (Stateline No.7 Architects), Sheridan: M&M Ice Rink (Dale Buckingham Architects), Mars Theater (Malone Belton Abel PC). You can read about these tours within this publication which includes photos and descriptions. We have members lined up for next year's celebration of National Architecture Week, the second full week in April. The Public and Professional Awareness Committee continues to keep the membership updated on current activities around the state by refreshing the AIA Wyoming Facebook page. We continue our goal to provide posts and information about all activities and announcements from around the state. Please join us in liking the AIA Wyoming Facebook page and inviting other professionals and colleagues to like it as well. We are always looking for alternate ways to inform the public and give them insight into what Architects do and how they impact everyone's lives and communities. In 2017, the committee is considering contact- ing the Wyoming Department of Tourism to incorporate materials that the public could use in discovering and visiting prominent architecture around Wyoming. We are always open to new ideas and volunteers to help us provide AIA Wyoming with great communication and awareness for the public on the profession of architecture. With good awareness comes greater benefit for all, both in the public realm and for our profes- sion. b
