2016 Directory

6 WYOMING ARCHITECTURE .16 | www.aia-wyoming.org T he AIA is a robust organization which is signified by the opportunities for growth and leadership that it makes available to its members. AIA Wyoming is a reflection of the AIA National organization. It is an organi- zation that is engaged in the relevant issues fac- ing the built environment and one that enlists the talents of its best and brightest members to advance the cause and celebrate architecture. The efforts of AIA Wyoming advocating for the profession occur through great leadership, staff and volunteerism. Our strategic plan consists of four standing committees; Government Advocacy, Public and Professional Awareness, Education and Resources, and Membership Development. You will read about the 2016 accomplishments and the ongoing programs in the articles of this publication. Also in 2016 AIA Wyoming Conference Planning Teams continued the classic traditions of three successful Chapter conferences; in Cheyenne in February, Sheridan in June, and in Jackson in October. Each conference has a unique, fresh theme. Our leadership and/or executive director attended the Grassroots Conference in Detroit, the State Government Network (SGN) and Speak Up Conference in Washington, D.C., the National Conference in Philadelphia, the Western Mountain Region (WMR) Conference in Salt Lake City and the WMR Council of Architectural Component Executives (CACE) in Denver. The conferences are a time when we get together with our colleagues for leadership development, continuing education, recog- nition of achievement, group events, tours of great architecture, and of course networking. The Board of Directors positions are filled by members that actively and consistently participate in AIA. The 2016 and 2017 Boards have a balance of masculine and feminine, as well as new faces and updated classics. The Board continues to implement the Strategic Plan, represent Wyoming at the confer- ences, and participate in the AIA National Repositioning Initiative. The Board continues to operate with a balanced budget which has allowed us to maintain the business of the Chapter and to focus the resources in the right areas. Please enjoy the features in this third annual publication of the Wyoming Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. I’m still amazed that the first two issues, Wyoming Architecture 14 and Wyoming Architecture 15, won international awards. The purpose of these publications is to showcase some of the accomplishments of this organization, not to win awards. But, hey, I’m not complaining. Thank you for your support as we celebrate 70 years as a Chapter of The American Institute of Architects (est. 1947 – 2017) and look forward to the transitions in the years ahead. b The Design Style Known as “Transitional” describes what I believe are the same characteristics of AIA Wyoming, this publication, and the values we aspire to here in the West. It is described with word combinations like updated classic, weathered and clean, a balance of masculine and feminine, robust and comfortable, hardy and polished, or classic with a contemporary twist.
