10 WYOMING ARCHITECTURE .18 | www.aia-wyoming.org T he Public Awareness Committee for the past five years has provided multiple successful projects that enhance the communication and awareness throughout the public and our Chapter. Even though this committee has the fewest members, it still is able to provide many avenues for reaching out for awareness. We will continue to bring new ideas and ways to connect with the Public and get the communication out so that more people understand what Architects do and the services they provide. This next year will hopefully bring more volunteerism to allow these ideas to develop and be implemented. National Architecture Week was celebrated this year during the same week as the spring conference. There were eight tours and two open houses in all. Advertisements were provided in each of the communities to create widespread public awareness for the following events; Casper: Open House to showcase the upcoming together workspace during the city's first Art Walk (Stateline No.7 Architects), Sheridan: Tour of Hall House (Dan Stalker, AIA), Tour of WYO Performing Arts and Education Center (Karen Kelly, AIA), and Tour of Sheridan Senior Center Renovation (Aimee Bolton, AIA), Cheyenne: Open House to showcase a variety of work including virtual reality models (Tobin & Associates), Laramie: Tour at UWMarian H. Rochelle Gateway Cen- ter (Stephan Pappas, AIA and Chet Lockard, AIA), Tour of Ivinson Memorial Hospital (Steve Carr, Preston Nelson, Ted Fritz), Tour of UW Arena Auditorium (Sallie Means, AIA), Tour of Enzi STEM Facility (Sallie Means, AIA), and Tour of UW High Altitude Training Center (Stephan Pappas, AIA). You can read about these tours and events within this publi- cation which includes photos and descriptions. National Architecture Week for 2019 will be coming around the corner quicker than expected, it is planned nationally for April 21-27, but we will be celebrating all month long. We currently are contemplating the idea of communities around Wyoming hosting an AIA Film Festival. This is where we could BY ANTHONY JACOBSEN, AIA, CHAIR Committee Members: Anthony Jacobsen, AIA, Chair Lyle Murtha, AIA Aimee Bolton, AIA Chet Lockard, AIA Public Awareness Committee Public Awareness Efforts Continue provide those communities with a short film from AIA or other sources that they could play at different venues - theatres, outside stages, etc. We are hoping to make this a free event, depending on available funding and venues, that the public could come to and learn about what architects and architecture are all about. Like last year we were able provide a larger format for the calendar, but this year the orientation is vertical instead of horizontal to allow for a large image while keeping the cal- endar functional. The images submitted this year as usual look great and provide a wide array of project examples around the state. The calendars are still FREE and available to anyone that would like to take one or pass them out, just contact anyone on this Public Awareness Committee. The images in the cal- endar are of Wyoming projects throughout the state, designed by AIA Wyoming architects and designers. For more information on AIA Wyoming calendars, contact AIA Wyoming at info@aia-wyoming.org or view our website at www.aia-wyoming.org . See also the back cover of this publication. This publication continues to be the strongest tool for AIA Wyoming to provide information to the public and showcase everything that happens during the year. As always with this publication, we aim to continue expanding our distribution list of industry partners, legislators, state departments, schools, contractors, realtors, clients, members and many other contacts throughout the state. This small package has lots of information that can easily reach and educate the public on our profession through the activities and programs of our Chapter. The Public and Professional Awareness Com- mittee continues to keep the membership up- dated on current activities around the state by refreshing the AIA Wyoming Facebook page. We continue our goal to provide posts and information about all activities and announce- ments from around the state. Please join us by “liking” the AIA Wyoming Facebook page and inviting other professionals and colleagues to “like” it as well. The Public Awareness Committee is commit- ted to providing information to the public to give them an insight into what Architects do and how they are involved in every commu- nity. We are always open to new ideas and volunteers to help us promote awareness of the profession through AIA Wyoming. b
