20 WYOMING ARCHITECTURE .18 | www.aia-wyoming.org AIA WESTERN MOUNTAIN REGION |CELEBRATING 60 YEARS RESONANCE SNOW KING RESORT | JACKSON, WY |09.19.19 -09.21.19 Resonance: “the quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating” In architecture we find apt analogy to this handy scientific terminology. The depth of the analysis of a site and program lead to the fullness of an architectural response. That response resonates with the occupants of a work of architecture and beyond. Thoughtful architecture enriches the lives of users, of a community, and sets an example for society of the positive influence of a physical environment on the human condition. Resonance in architecture combines an echo of history with a vision of an undiscovered future in perpetuity. SAVE THE DATE 2019WMR Friday began with Claire Weisz, founding partner of WXY, a New York firm globally recognized for its community-centered approach to architecture, urban design and planning. Continuing the con- ference with more Lessons Learned films and progressing to more sessions that included topics on Citizen Speech Acts, DesignTrust.org, Beyond Conservation, and Marlon Blackwell Architects. Breaking up the tracks was Gregg Pasquarelli, SHoP, modeled a new way forward with its unconventional approach to design. At the heart of the firm’s method is a willingness to quest accepted patterns of practice, coupled with the courage to expand, where necessary, beyond the architect’s traditional roles. Additional tracks on Friday included the topics Data Driven Design, Transmitting Architectural Data, The Future is Driverless, and Creative Machines. The sessions ended with a combined panel discussion con- sisting of Claire Weisz and Gregg Pasquarelli. Friday concluded with the WMR Design and Honor Awards Cele- bration in the Grand Ballroom hosted by Rick Joy, FAIA and Marlon Blackwell, FAIA. Congratulations to the award winners of the region! Considering new means of methods of practice, higher standards of performance, innovative delivery methods, and a fresh generation of architects. Leadership Saturday was a result of discussions over the last several months about the future of the WMR. What is the value of the WMR as an AIA entity? What programs might benefit from region- al collaboration? These questions were considered along with new strategic direction. The sessions involved the WMR Leadership, WMR Fellows, WMR AIA10/Associates/Allied, and WMR Communications/ Government Affairs/Membership. Thank you to AIA Arizona for hosting and exceptional event. We look forward to hosting this event next year in Jackson, Wyoming. b
