25 FrederickButters, FAIA, Esq Judy Knight Mary Kelly, PhD, CSP, CDR, US Navy (retired) AIA Wyoming Spring Conference BY ANTHONY JACOBSEN, AIA AND SUSAN MENGHINI, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR A IA Wyoming held their Spring Conference April 12-14 in Laramie, WY, “Leadership and Legacy”. Leadership is the most important ingredient to building a strong community. Speakers for this event were chosen to identify the legacy of architecture in Lara- mie as well as the role of the leader in any community. The conference was held the same week as AIA’s National Architecture Week and included events that coincided with this national event. The conference included six speakers, five building tours, a social event, and a design charrette spread over the three days. The event was held at the University of Wyoming Conference Center, and provided a central location for the sessions, tours, and activities. Over a dozen industry partners supported the conference, including several who exhibited their product information. Thank you to our conference planning team who included Aimee Bolton, AIA, Jessica Brist, UW Student, Anthony Denzer, Ph.D. and UW Instructor Rachel Delventhal, AIA, Jacob Ernst, AIA, Gigi Lockard, Slade Sheaffer, UW Student, Lewis Matthew Miller, AIA, Matthew Newman, AIA, Tim Schenk, AIA, and Susan Menghini. There were pre-conference workshops on Thursday afternoon. Bruce Ot- ten, Mark Erickson, and Robert van der Hoeven presented on the topics of masonry, foundation and structural systems, and repairs. Thursday evening the AIAWyoming Membership Development Com- mittee facilitated a Design Charrette Competition that was well attended. The second day of the conference, speaker Judy Knight discussed "Les- sons from the Past" regarding Laramie's 19th-20th century architecture.
