41 Sheridan Tours Continued Tour of Sheridan Senior Center Renovation now called "The Hub on Smith" T here were approximately 8 – 10 folks attending. Aimee Bolton, AIA opened the event with discussion of National Architecture Week and a brief history of how the celebration came about. e background history was provided of the Sheridan Senior Center and then discussed events resulting in the Renovation and Expansion Project that was completed in Fall of 2017. This project was a result of years of planning and looking ahead to the Baby Boomer generation. The statistics projected that by the year 2030 the number of “undupli- cated” users served on a yearly basis would be approximately 5,000; up from the current 2,900 people served annually. The Hub on Smith is the largest Center in the State of Wyoming in programs, services and people served. The design goals for the project were highlighted during the walking tour to show how the challenges faced during design were resolved and implemented into the project. Project details including the project team, cost, size and how funds were raised during their capital cam- paign where shared. (The Hub on Smith project is one of five projects that the capital campaign funds were allocated). The discussion portion of the tour concluded with interesting facts about the services pro- vided by The Hub, upcoming events/activities and reasons behind the rebranding of the Sheridan Senior Center to “The Hub on Smith.” The new name came about because the staff believed the new senior center was deserving of a new name and brand to reflect the energy, excite- ment and relationships that happen when people walk in the door. They also feel that more people will become involved in what they do and believe, as “senior” is not a term that everyone relates to. The new and updated brand represents who and what they are in the community. The group walked through all areas of the project. The event concluded in the new Grab and Go café with their barista preparing custom cof- fees and serving pastries – all of which are made onsite from scratch. b
