12 WYOMING ARCHITECTURE .19 | www.aia-wyoming.org BY ANTHONY JACOBSEN, AIA Committee Members: Anthony Jacobsen, AIA, Chair Lyle Murtha, AIA Aimee Bolton, AIA Andrea Haro, Assoc. AIA Public Awareness Committee Creating Opportunities for Awareness T he Public Awareness Committee’s mission is to provide and increase the exposure of Wyoming Architecture and the value of the profession to the public. We promote the industry as a professional and ethical industry through public relations efforts. We encourage and facilitate commu- nication in the chapter by use of informa- tion technology, and create forums for the exchange of ideas and information. We have created multiple different projects to provide awareness to the public and always look for the next opportunity to provide that connection. This year we tried something new for National Architecture Week – a Film Festival. The AIA Wyoming Film Festival was held in multiple communities around Wyoming, be- ginning around National Architecture Week and celebrated for the next couple of months afterward. Numerous films were shown at each location, and the event was provided free to the public thanks to a funding grant from the Wyoming Board of Architects and Landscape Architects. The board paid for the venues, and our wonderful volunteers hosted these events in their communities. Please see the article later in this publication to read more about our efforts to bring awareness to the public by hosting the AIA Wyoming Film Festival. As usual, the calendar project is still going strong and they are still FREE and available to anyone that would like to take one or pass them out. Contact anyone on this Public Awareness Committee for copies. The imag- es in the calendar are of Wyoming projects throughout the state, designed by AIA Wy- oming architects and designers from across the state. For more information on AIA Wyoming calendars, contact AIA Wyoming at info@aia-wyoming.org or by viewing our website at www.aia-wyoming.org . See also the back cover of this publication for more information. The Wyoming Architecture publication is currently the best tool for AIA Wyoming to communicate with many different industries in a small package. We have built up a great distribution coverage with this publication, and we are always evaluating how we can ex- pand our distribution list of industry part- ners, legislators, state departments, schools, contractors, realtors, clients, members, and many other contacts throughout the state. This publication has lots of information that can easily reach and educate the public on our profession through our activities and programs of our Chapter. Many of the AIA Wyoming activities and announcements are posted on our AIA Wy- oming Facebook page. We keep the mem- bership updated on current activities around the state, and our goal is to provide posts and information on all happenings from AIA Wyoming. Please join us in liking the AIA Wyoming Facebook page and inviting other professionals, colleagues, or anyone interested in architecture to like it as well. The Public Awareness Committee is contin- ually looking for ways to create connections with the public and provide awareness about the great community of architects Wyoming has, and how they impact all of our lives. We are always open to new ideas and volunteers to help us promote awareness of the profes- sion through AIA Wyoming. b
