15 Membership Development Committee Building Relationships – The Impact of the One-On-One Conversation BY DALE BUCKINGHAM, AIA Committee Members: Dale Buckingham, AIA, Chair Rachel Delventhal, AIA Lewis Matthew Miller, AIA Carl Kohut, AIA T he membership development committee has a two-part mission. First, we are always exploring ways to encourage Wyo- ming licensed architects, associate architects, intern architects, and industry partners to join our organization. Second, we strive to educate potential and current AIAWyoming members of the rich heritage and benefits of belonging and serving in our professional organization. In the past couple of years, the membership development committee focused on retaining current members and highlighting the attributes of membership within AIAWyoming. This year, however, the committee concentrated more on recruiting new members. Those of us in the architectural profession know the importance of strategic marketing. As architects and design professionals, we also know that the best marketing tools in the busi- ness are one-on-one conversations and build- ing relationships. The same holds for recruiting new members to AIA Wyoming. As a young architect, I remember visiting with several older practitioners who always spoke about the importance of AIA Wyoming and how getting involved would benefit my career. It was with those words of encouragement that drew me to the organization. These same words of encour- agement from current active members to newly licensed architects, associate architects, intern architects, and industry partners – will benefit the success and future of AIA Wyoming. May we – each member of AIA Wyoming, in con- junction with the membership development committee – strive to have these one-on-one conversations and build relationships to con- tinue the legacy of AIA Wyoming. b AIA Wyoming Technology in Architecture Practice (TAP) Knowledge Community BY LEWIS MATTHEW MILLER, AIA T he AIA National Technology in Prac- tice Knowledge Community has an- nounced the 2019 Innovation Awards recipients.
