20 WYOMING ARCHITECTURE .19 | www.aia-wyoming.org In 2019, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) celebrated its centennial anniversary. Founded in May 1919, NCARB’s original mission was to set national standards for registration and facilitate licensure between states. While its programs have evolved over time, NCARB’s core goal of protecting the public remains the same. Like NCARB, each licensing board has a rich history and Wyoming is no exception. Here is a look back at some of Wyoming’s key milestones throughout NCARB’s history: 1951 House Bill 76 of the 1951 Legislative Session was enacted, creating the Wyoming State Board of Architects 1971 Wyoming began requiring completion of NCARB’s examination for licensure 1990 Wyoming began requiring completion of NCARB’s experience program for licensure 1991 Legislation added the regulation of landscape architecture to the board’s responsibilities—changing the name to the Wyoming Board of Architects and Landscape Architects 2012 The Wyoming Board began subsidizing continuing education and public educational opportunities in the state by providing grant fund money to nonprofit entities, with the goal of raising awareness about the value of licensure.
