45 Many of the newbuilding systems in theCentral UtilityPlant (CUP) have been relocated, belowgrade, to the southeast side of theHerschler Building. TheHerschler Building has been radically transformed and expandedby 56,000 square feet. Replacing the exterior of theHerschler Building due to its failing envelope provided anopportunity to expand the building and remove the underutilized atriumon the north side of the building. Removal of the atriumimproved energy efficiency, reducednoise, and restoredCapitol views fromthe north. Widening the building to the south takes advantage of the existing foundation systemand reinforces the proximity of theHerschler Building to theCapitol. The newexterior design allowsmore daylight into theHerschler Building interior. Before Before Interior photoof theHerschler Building before the project.
